Shopping and errands too: use YOBIOKO tasks as reminders

YOBIOKO4 min readUpdated:

Tasks in YOBIOKO are not only a place for things to do in the morning. You can also use them as reminders for everyday errands, like “Buy toothpaste” or “Hand in the form”.

What you can put in tasks

Add them when they come to mind, and the list becomes your to-do memo.

Add a reminder

A task can have a reminder time. At that time, a notification tells you.

  1. In the Tasks tab, tap “+”.
  2. Type what to do.
  3. Under Reminder, choose when you want to be told.
  4. Save.

Add a time only when you want to be told. A task with no time still stays in the list as a to-do memo.

Reminders arrive as notifications, so allow notifications for the app.

Repeat

For things you do every day or every week, set Repeat to daily or to certain weekdays. Mark one as done, and the next day it is open again.

Example taskRepeat
Take my medicineDaily
Take out the trashCertain weekdays (choose your trash days)
Water the plantsDaily, or certain weekdays
Hand in the formNo repeat

Mark it as done

When a task is finished, mark it as done. The list can show All, Open or Done. Whether done tasks still notify you is a choice in settings.

Choose Open and only the errands that are left are listed. This is handy before you go out or on the way home.

How tasks relate to the morning alarm

With your morning alarm, the app shows the set number of tasks from those you have not finished yet. Every morning you type your remaining errands with your own hands.

StateShown with the morning alarm?
Open taskYes
Task marked as doneNo
Weekly task that is not for today's weekdayNo

In settings you choose the number: S (3), M (5) or L (10). On days with many tasks, the app picks from them. On days with few, practice phrases fill the rest.

What the notification and the alarm each do

One task shows up at two moments.

MomentHow it tells youWhat you do
The reminder timeA notificationDo the errand and mark it as done
The morning alarmTasks you have not finished appear on the typing screenType the tasks

A notification is easy to miss, and then it is gone. A task that is not finished also comes up with the morning alarm, so you see it again. The differences are in Alarm, timer or reminder? The differences and when to use each.

Use it as a shopping list

Add “Buy toothpaste” and “Buy detergent”, and they come up with your morning alarm until you buy them. Mark them done when you have.

Write one item per task. “Buy milk” and “Buy eggs” are easier to type in the morning than “Shopping (milk, eggs, bread)”, and you can mark each one as you buy it.

An example day

WhenWhat you do
The night beforeAdd “Hand in the form” and “Buy milk”. For “Buy milk”, choose an evening time under Reminder
MorningWhen the alarm rings, type the tasks shown. They remind you what today holds
MiddayHand in the form and mark it as done
EveningThe reminder notification arrives. Buy the milk and mark it as done
Next morningAny errand not finished comes up with the alarm again

Writing tips

You will type them in the morning, so short wording works well. See How to write tasks that are easy to type. For examples you can use as they are, see How to make a morning to-do list, with 40 examples.

Common stumbling points

Where the data is

Tasks are saved only on your device. There is no sign-up and no login.

In the current version, tasks cannot be moved to a new device. To remove them, choose Settings → “Delete all data” in the app to delete the data on this device.

FAQ

Can I use it with only shopping and errands, and no morning routines?

Yes. With your morning alarm, the app shows tasks you have not finished yet, so you stop the alarm by typing your shopping and errands.

Does adding tasks cost anything?

No. Adding tasks is free. The free version shows ads.
