What is a “type to stop” alarm? How it works and how to use it

YOBIOKO4 min readUpdated:

Most alarms stop when you press a button. YOBIOKO changes that one thing: the alarm does not stop until you have typed today's tasks.

How it works

You save things to do in the app as tasks. Not only morning routines: everyday errands such as “Buy toothpaste” or “Hand in the form” go in too. In the morning, when the alarm rings, you tap “Type tasks” and type each task shown on the screen. When you finish the last one, the alarm stops.

What you type is your own tasks that are not finished yet. Typing “Take out the trash” or “Meeting at 9” reminds you what today holds.

You set a time and weekdays just as you do with a normal alarm. The only thing that changes is what you do to stop it.

What happens until it stops

  1. The alarm rings
  2. You tap “Type tasks”
  3. You type each task as shown
  4. It stops when you finish the last one

If you stop typing for 5 seconds, the sound rings again. It stops as soon as you continue. The typing screen shows a bar for the time left, so you can see how soon it will ring.

When you finish, you see that morning's score (out of 1000) and your type. Your records build up in the Insights tab.

Before you start

  1. In the Tasks tab, tap “+” and add things to do.
  2. In the Alarms tab, tap “+” and choose a time and weekdays.
  3. Check that “Type tasks to stop” is on, then save.
  4. The first time you save, allow alarms and notifications when the app asks.
  5. Tap “Practice” on the Alarms screen and type once.

Once allowed, the alarm rings even in silent mode. The app works on iPhone with iOS 26 or later and on Android 8.0 or later.

Common stumbling points

Who it suits

Try it first

You can try the same typing in your browser without installing anything. In the 16 Morning Types test, you type tasks and find out which of the 16 types matches the way you type.

The website test gives you a result once, using tasks we prepared. In the app you type your own tasks every morning with your alarm, and your records build up.
