What is the wake-up check? One more check after the alarm stops

YOBIOKO4 min readUpdated:

Sometimes you stop the alarm and lie down again. The wake-up check asks one more time after the alarm has stopped.

How it goes

  1. The alarm rings and you finish typing your tasks
  2. 10 minutes later, a silent notification arrives
  3. Tap it within 3 minutes and you are done for the morning
  4. If you do not tap it, the alarm rings once more

The notification makes no sound. If you are up, you only need to tap it.

How to set it

  1. Open an alarm in the Alarms tab.
  2. Turn on “Wake-up check”.
  3. Save.

The wake-up check is off at first. You decide for each alarm. If notifications are not allowed, the app asks when you turn it on.

An example timeline

Here is a morning with a 7:00 alarm, where you finish typing at 7:02. The time until the check is the 10 minutes of the free version.

TimeWhat happens
7:00The alarm rings
7:02You finish typing your tasks. The alarm stops
7:12A silent notification arrives
Until 7:15Tap the notification and you are done for the morning
After 7:15If you have not tapped it, the alarm rings once more

The 10 minutes are counted from the moment you finish typing. On a morning when you finish late, the notification comes later too.

Time until the check

In the free version it is 10 minutes. With Premium you can choose the time.

Premium is $3.99 per month in the US (¥400 in Japan). Prices differ by country. It renews automatically and you can cancel anytime. There is no free trial. The differences are in What is free in YOBIOKO, and what does Premium add?.

When to use it

You decide for each alarm, so you do not need it on all of them.

How it differs from snooze and the 5-second rule

YOBIOKO has three things that make the alarm ring again. They work at different moments.

FeatureWhenWhat happens
SnoozeYou tap × while the alarm ringsIt rings again after the time you set. Up to 2 times
5-second ruleYour hands stop while typing tasksThe sound rings after 5 seconds. It stops when you continue
Wake-up checkAfter you finish typingA notification arrives 10 minutes later. If you do not tap it within 3 minutes, the alarm rings once more

Snooze and the 5-second rule are about the time before the alarm stops. Only the wake-up check looks at the time after. See Snooze is limited to 2 times and Stop for 5 seconds and it rings again.
